Wide reading V4

Brief Plot

This is a film about a Maori child life and what experience though this journey. This film includes many emotions and life challenges that “Boy” faces and seems to get past them fine. This is also a comedic film as it is very funny and heartwarming.

Characters I found interesting and why

I found in this film the main character, Boy, was very funny and only being 11 he seemed quite grown up as he was looking after the house and other children when his nana left to a funeral.

Messages I took form the text and why

Challenges the character had to deal with

Challenges boy faced were when his nana left and he had to look after many young children by e.g. making food, cleaning and being there for them. Another challenge was when Boy’s dad would become aggressive and violent when he didn’t get what he was looking for and take out some of this on Boy.

The title of the text

I think the title for this text is appropriate because the story is about this boy and the film is titled Boy so I feel it suits quite appropriately. I agree with this title as it is just stating what the film is about, and is not complicated or confusing to the viewer.

Who would I recommend the text and why

I would personally recommend this to children and adults because those would be the age groups I feel that they would gain the most enjoyment out of.
